2020 Vision Board

Have you ever created a vision board?

I can’t believe this is the last Monday of 2019! In two days, we will be starting a new month, a new year and a new decade! Wow! Isn’t that crazy? I don’t know about you, but I just love this time of year and the opportunity it provides have a fresh start and a new beginning! The start of the new year brings out a lot of conversation about goal setting, and reflecting on accomplishments from 2019.

One of my favorite ways to reflect on the current year and look forward to the upcoming year is to create a vision board. I love vision boards because they’re a totally creative way to have this conversation with yourself about setting goals and to reflect on what your dream life looks like. I honestly consider it to be a self-care practice because it’s an amazing way to spend some quality “me time” especially during the hectic holiday season.

I have created vision boards in the past on various size scrapbook layouts, but this is the first year I have made a really big one to hang on my office wall for the whole year! I purchased a cork bulletin board at Mardel Christian Book Store while I was doing some Christmas shopping. It’s 24″ x 36″ and gave me quite a bit of space to be able to include my goals and dreams for the new year.

You can create your vision board on anything you choose, but I do think it’s important to hang it or display it where you’ll see it everyday to remind you of the goals you have set for yourself this year. You could create it on a scrapbook layout, like I’ve done in the past, but I would suggest displaying it in your office, bedroom or craft space or anywhere you spend a lot of time.

I would like to challenge you to create a vision board for yourself this year and give it a try! Make sure to have a lot of room to spread out and be creative! Light a candle, fix a cup of peppermint cocoa, play uplifting or calming music, do whatever it takes to get you feeling relaxed, motivated, and inspired. Like I said earlier, treat creating a vision board as a self-care practice, and as quality “me time.”

It was helpful to sit and make a list of the things I wanted to do and accomplish in 2020, before I started. I decided to do a ’20 in 20′ list of goals!

Here is what I came up with:

20 Goals in 2020
Travel to Tahiti in April
Get an Electric Entry Gate
Build a Dock on our Pond
Install Sod and Landscaping
Book an Alaskan Cruise
Buy a New Car
Earn Abundant Income
Be in God’s Word everyday
Create at least two layouts per week
Earn the CTMH Incentive Trip
Attend NFR in Las Vegas
Book our Trip to Steamboat
Host 7+ Retreats at Covered Bridge Inn
Complete my 2020 Year in the Life Album
Lose 20 pounds before Tahiti
Serve at FBC in Re-Engage
Complete 20 Creative Projects in 2020.
Host Team Retreats
Attend Business Builders Conference
Promote to Senior Executive Director

It was really fun to just write down everything that came to mind and allow myself to wish and dream a little! Once, you’ve made your list of dreams and goals, it’s time to gather all of your pictures and words for your vision board!

There’s a variety of ways you can go about this:

*Cut them out of magazines

*Use an image search engine

*Use Pinterest

*Create your own graphics using PicMonkey or Canva

*Use your Cricut, Thin Cuts or Stamps!

After you’ve found all of your images it’s time to let the creative vibes flow. There’s really no right or wrong way to do this. Place your images on your vision board whichever way looks right to you! Just make sure you make it something that you’ll be happy to see every day. Something that truly represents you and your dream life.

My office!

Let’s Get Started!

I used the writing desk in my office to lay my cork board out on and to be able to work on it for a few days. It was easy to add a few things to it and then walk away for awhile and then come back to it and see if I still loved the way it looked. Do you do that with your scrapbook layouts? I sure do! Sometimes it helps to walk away and come back with fresh eyes. I knew I wanted my ‘Focus Word of the Year’ to be front and center on my vision board.

I searched Pinterest and Google for images that represented my goals and dreams for 2020. I also wanted to include my Focus Word for the year, which is ‘CREATE’. So, I searched for quotes that resonated with me that included my word for the year.

I use a Canon Selphy Printer to print my photos at home. It makes it so easy to create and be able to print anything I want from the photos on my iPhone. I also used Becky Higgins Project Life app to resize my photos and print smaller photos, such as 3″ x 4″. I think our scrapbook layouts and even our vision boards have more visual interest when the images are not all the same size. I included 4″ x 6″, 3″ x 4″ and 4″x4″ images on my vision board. I trimmed my photos to the size I wanted them with my Fiskars Paper Trimmer from Close to My Heart.

It will depend on the surface of your vision board, how you will attach your images. If it’s a cork board, you can use push pins, staples, etc. You could use a magnetic board and use decorative magnets or you can glue them on a poster or foam core board! Just have fun with it! I attached my photos to my cork board with the Close to My Heart adhesive runner! I wasn’t sure it would work on the cork surface, but so far it seems to be holding! Yay! If the photos comes loose, I think I will use a few staples to reinforce them.

I hope you’ll take some time this first week of the new year and make a list of your goals and dreams for 2020! You could even do a ’20 in 20′ list like I did! I would love to have you share your vision board with me! I’m doing a challenge in both my customer and consultant Facebook Groups this week.
